Events: The Burn's supper 2002
We held our annual Burns Supper on Saturday 26th February 2002 at the Officers' Mess, Kungliga Livgardets Dragoner. The evening was a great success despite adverse circumstances and last minute changes in the seating plan. During the week before the dinner our treasurer was working in Paris; the president was on a course; one of the committee members moved house and another was recovering from illness. Extensive use of e-mail and cell phones meant that we were able to keep in touch with one another and on the night the seating plan worked almost perfectly.
Princess Lilian was unfortunately unable to attend due to an injured leg and the British Ambassador had to attend his son's birthday party.
Robert Wallgren and Maria Dammeyer piped us in.
Graham Brodie was the Steward (toastmaster).
The president of the society, the Reverend Georgina Fornhammar McEwan, proposed the toast to their Majesties the King and Queen of Sweden and Carl-Edward Montgomery toasted her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Brian Steel addressed the haggis.
Justin McLaughlin recited the Selkirk Grace.
Peter Vowden gave us an English perspective on the Immortal memory of Robert Burns that was both entertaining and informative without being too long.
Erik Reuterswärd toasted the lassies.
Kerstin Friberg later replied on their behalf.
Major Ian Fleming bravely stepped in to replace Colonel Braunstein and gave the traditional toast to the Horse.
